A LETTER FROM THE AIR CANADA MEC:
Air Canada pilots are invested in our customers, our company, and our country.
In May 2023, we—the pilots at Canada’s largest airline—voted to fold our union into the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), growing ALPA’s membership to more than 74,000 pilots in Canada and the United States. Soon after the merger, we invoked an escape clause that allowed the Air Canada ALPA pilots to end our 10-year framework with Air Canada one year early. Our pilot group entered the bargaining process in June 2023, with our Collective Agreement expiring on September 29, 2023.
We are fully invested in our company, our customers, and our country. We’re proud of our profession and take our job of transporting passengers safely to their destinations very seriously. We’re ready to negotiate and expect Air Canada to recognize our professionalism and our contributions to the growing success of a world-class airline.
We have initiated discussions with Air Canada to achieve a contract that closes the growing gaps in wages and quality of life between pilots in the United States and Canada. We strive to attract future aviators to join our ranks. We want Air Canada to be a world-class airline that achieves consistent, safe, and reliable service for our passengers and our country. Air Canada pilots are united and dedicated to achieving the world-class contract that world-class pilots deserve.
We look forward to successful negotiations. The bargaining process is an opportunity to make positive changes for our pilot group, but we hold no illusions that this will be an easy process. Attaining our first labour agreement in almost a decade will require intense focus and commitment—our guiding goal is to contribute positively to a strong, sustainable aviation industry in Canada.
We value the respect accorded to our profession by the travelling public. Air Canada pilots strive each day to uphold high standards as we deliver our passengers, fellow crewmembers, and aircraft safely to their destinations.
